Nonna’s Pasta and Pizzeria


When I received an invite from Aldous that we’re going to review Nonna’s in Nuvali Solenad 3, In my mind “Hmmm? Nonna’s in Nuvali? Been in Nuvali few weekends ago, but I haven’t seen Nonna’s.”. And when I checked out Zomato, food lovers gave Nonna’s a 4.9 rating, and I get thrilled. Looks like the South is offering another great Italian restaurant for everyone. Nonna’s just opened last November 2015.


We are introduced to Nonna’s Nonna’s owner David Sison, he’s a young entrepreneur and food-enthusiast. I also found out from him that they also owned Mama Lou’s Italian Kitchen (which today has 3 branches BF Paranaque, Nuvali Solenad 2, and UP Town Center). I’m curious why they opened another Italian restaurant, he said “Nonna’s is the contemporary and hip version of Mama Lou’s. Also, Nonna’s focus on Italian fusion with organic local produce.” Yes, most of their ingredients are locally produced by small cooperative and farmers from Cavite, Batangas and Laguna. That’s another good thing about this restaurant, you’re not just enjoying your food made of fresh and healthy ingredients, but you’re indirectly supporting our local farmers.


Just a bit of trivia. Why Nonna? Well she’s an Old Italian woman (generally the age of 50+) that is cute and can cook up the most delicious food that you can ever think of. Nonna is an Italian word for grandmother. Which speaks up very well for Nonna’s because their food were all enjoyable!

The appetizers are all healthy, no meat! Perfect for health conscious dude! Mushroom Chicharon (P160) taste like our favorite sinful pork chicharon, but this one is made of fresh oysters, dipped in vinaigrette, hmm perfect, my mouth feast with my favorite chicharon without the guilt.

Insalata Caprese (P225) is a mix of cherry tomato, basil and my super favorite carabao’s milk kesong puti. Then whisk with extra virgin oil and balsamic glaze.

 Wild Arugula Salad (P325) your not so favorite fresh harvest arugula, but this one lessen the bitter taste of arugula that it compliment well with crispy mushroom bits and parmesan cheese. Topped with sunny side-up egg too!

Fresh Salmon Carpacio (P375) guaranteed fresh thinly sliced salmon drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and lemon, served with arugula, grapes and parmesan cheese.

One of my comfort food is pizza. So I drool over Nonna’s best seller brick–oven pizza, the Tutti Formagi (P350) your favorite all cheese pizza, made of mozzarella, Gouda, honey goat cheese, parmesan and blue cheese. Meat lover’s can try All Meat (P450) topped with salami, bacon and home-made Italian sausage plus pomodoro sauce and mozzarella cheese. And lastly, the Seoul Special (P395) a taste of Korean, this one is made of Pomodoro, mozzarella, kimchi (yes, kimchi), home-made Korean sausage, sesame seeds, scallions and topped with soy glaze.

I have to mention that their fettuccine and spaghetti pasta are home-made. Nonna’s kitchen team starts to prepare the pasta every morning just to serve customers fresh pasta every day. You can feel the difference in taste compare to the usual dry pasta. This one is soft and had unique taste that perfectly blends to their oil-based, white and red sauce. The Salmon Caviar Pasta (P350) is made with alfredo sauce pasta smoked salmon, chives and caviar. Fetuccine Carbonara (P245) cooked with cream, egg, bacon and pecorino romano sauce, grizzled with black pepper. And finally, Vesuvio (P495) it’s a mountain of rigatoni, stuffed with mozzarella, ricotta, peas, fennel sausage and egg. Vesuvio is my favorite!

They have limited dessert selection, but for me Pizzaoki (P225) is a winner, a pizza cookie! An out of the oven cookie, comes out moist and delish, topped with vanilla ice cream and stuffed smores. I also like this not so sweet, Crème Brulee (P165) creamy custard topped with caramelized sugar.

Delizioso! Thank you Nonna’s! It was another gastronomical experience down South. Big shout-out to David Sison and Aldous (, thanks for inviting us. Definitely a must try, only in Nuvali!
